Health-care companies rose after a mixed round of earnings.

Anti-obesity GLP-1 drugs are the best-selling class of pharmaceuticals in decades but producers such as Eli Lilly and Danish rival Novo Nordisk are still vying for market share.

Shares of Lilly rose after it posted robust quarterly earnings growth and struck a deal with drug-store chain and health insurer CVS Health to provide patients easier access to its Zepbound and Foundayo products.

Shares of Danish rival Novo Nordisk rose, but were still down from levels prior to earnings earlier in the week.
