ASB has joined ANZ and BNZ in increasing a range of its interest rates. It is lifting its six-month home loan rate by 10 basis points to 4.79 percent, its one-year rate by 24 basis points to 4.99 percent, its 18-month rate by 26 basis points to 5.25 percent, its two-year rate by 20 basis points to 5.45 percent and its three-year rate by 16 basis points to 5.45 percent. Some term deposit rates are increasing, too, taking the 24-month rate to 4.2 percent and the 18-month rate to 4.15 percent."We're continuing to see volatility in wholesale interest rates, which have climbed over the past month. This has a direct bearing on the rates we offer on lending and deposits, in line with what is happening in markets around the world," ASB executive general manager personal banking Adam Boyd said,"These changes mean we're able to support savers with stronger term deposit rates. We'd also encourage any homeowners with questions about their lending to get in touch. It's important to find the right structure for your circumstances and our team is ready to help you work through your options."One-year swap rates have risen from about 3 percent to just under 3.4 percent over the past month, and two-year rates have lifted from about 3.3 percent to 3.6 percent.Cotality chief property economist Kelvin Davidson said people were taking longer fixes."In late 2024, less than 10 percent of new loans were being fixed beyond 12 months and that number was still less than 20 percent as recently as November 2025. But it's jumped up to the mid-50 percents for the past five months (with the two-year rate very popular), as borrowers look to protect against any further interest rate increases in a world of higher inflation and heightened uncertainty. The shift longer will generally be applying to people re-fixing existing mortgages as they roll over too."[ https://rnz.us6.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=211a938dcf3e634ba2427dde9&id=b4c9a30ed6 Sign up for Money with Susan Edmunds], a weekly newsletter covering all the things that affect how we make and spend money
