In July, Ukraine saw the highest number of civilian deaths since April 2022 due to an intensification of Russian attacks using ballistic missiles and long-range drones.
According to Ukrinform, this is stated in a press release from the UN Press Office, citing the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine.
However, the statement does not specify the total number of fatalities for July. It notes that at least 17 civilians were killed and another 44 were wounded as a result of a nighttime attack by Russian forces on Tuesday, primarily in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Kramatorsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia were also targeted by airstrikes and drone attacks. Dozens of people were killed or wounded as a result of the shelling, and residential buildings, schools, public transportation facilities, water supply systems, and humanitarian warehouses were destroyed.
In the first half of 2026, the UN monitoring mission confirmed the deaths of 1,396 Ukrainian civilians and injuries to 7,978 people—a 37% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and a 114% increase compared to the previous year—as Russia escalates its long-range strikes.
