TikTok has taken down Perez Hilton’s social media account after the celebrity gossip blogger appeared to be harming himself on a social media livestream on Tuesday.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned from TikTok’s U.S. spokesperson that the video social media platform quickly flagged the livestream and alerted the American content moderation team. It’s understood a “moderator error” caused a delay in taking down the disturbing livestream.
TikTok also puts the duration of the livestream at around 15 minutes, not the half hour widely reported. And TikTok claims to have shut down several streams within 90 seconds, before banning the account outright due to Hilton breaching the social media platform’s Community Guidelines.
On Tuesday, in graphic clips reposted on social media, Hilton, appearing manic, could be seen in the livestream covered in blood, and using an object to cut himself repeatedly. While not naming Hilton specifically, the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office said it had received “multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.”
Deputies then located this person’s residence, arrived on the scene and spoke with family members before they “tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation and providing the needed support to his family.” That was followed by the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office reporting Hilton was “safely recovered” and receiving medical attention.
