Celebrity blogger and media personality Perez Hilton has been taken to hospital after reportedly livestreaming an apparent act of self-harm on TikTok, prompting an emergency response from authorities in Miami.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched on Tuesday after receiving multiple reports from members of the public about a man broadcasting acts of self-harm on social media. Although authorities did not officially identify the individual, Hilton's management later confirmed they were aware of the incident involving their client.
Deputies arrived at the Miami residence and met with members of the man's family before adopting a crisis intervention approach. Law enforcement said officers deliberately created time and distance to allow for de-escalation rather than forcing an immediate confrontation.
The sheriff's office explained that in incidents involving someone experiencing a mental health crisis, slowing the situation can reduce the risk of further harm while giving trained personnel an opportunity to communicate with the individual safely.
