New guidance has come into force on who can use single sex spaces like changing rooms, toilets and refuges – following a Supreme Court ruling last year.

The code, drawn up by the equalities watchdog to cover England, Scotland and Wales, says such spaces should be based on a person’s biological sex.

And it’s being left up to service providers to police the rules. Trans rights campaigners say it’s unworkable and could result in discrimination but gender critical organisations say protecting single sex spaces is about safety.
