Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane has undertaken to engage the City of Cape Town and The Western Cape government regarding the sale of the Tafelberg land property and report back to Parliament.
The Western Cape government snubbed a meeting on Wednesday with the Human Settlements Portfolio Committee called to discuss the implications of the recent Constitutional Court judgment regarding the R135 million Tafelberg land sale.
Committee Chairperson Albert Seabi said the provincial Infrastructure Department was invited along with the national Human Settlements Department.
Seabi said the provincial department had indicated that the matter of the land sale was sub judice and they still have to go back to the court in three months time.
“They felt in their view, according to the letter, that it is not an opportune time to brief the public,” he said.
