CEO Stephen Yalof said Tanger centers in 8 of 11 host cities saw gains from international visitors, with sales up about 5% for the year

Tanger Inc. saw traffic and sales rise at its outlet centers this summer as World Cup tourism drew international and domestic visitors, President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Yalof said Wednesday.

Tanger has a presence in eight of the 11 World Cup host cities, and the company noted that its athletic brands were among the standout performers as enthusiasm for the tournament ran high. "Traffic drives sales. Traffic and sales always move together," Yalof told CNBC. "For the year, we're up about 5% sales-wise, which is pretty substantial."

Yalof said international visitors were drawn to a "real American experience," including dining and shopping options located at or near Tanger centers. "What we add to the mix is that value shopping experience, particularly in our outlet centers, which give these customers the opportunity to shop American brands like Polo and Michael Kors and Kate Spade and Coach and Nike $NKE, and buy that product at the best possible price," he told CNBC.
