Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney recently left her role as Cassie Plummer on the ITV soap but her fate is unclear and now the actress has revealed all she knows18:24, 05 Aug 2026Claire Sweeney has admitted that she has "no idea" whether her Coronation Street character is alive or dead. The actress, 55, has just left her role as Cassie Plummer after three years on the ITV soap, but her exit left a trail of mystery and nothing has been explained just yet.‌In 2023, Cassie made her debut in Weatherfield after bosses chose to rewrite history and introduce her as the long-lost biological mum of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), and claim that Jackie Dobbs (Margi Clarke) was his adoptive mum. In her final weeks on the soap, Cassie's world imploded when Tyrone's long-lost dad Ross turned up out of the blue, and eventually broke the news that he had paid her for sex when she was underage.‌An attempt to spike his drink went awry and everyone began to see her as the villain of the piece. Just before she left, she warned daughter-in-law Fiz just how "dangerous" he could be and claimed she had got herself a job working on a cruise ship.‌In a strange turn of events, Ross managed to persuade her to let him give her a left and, in what turned out to be Cassie's final scene, the car sped off. Ross later arrived back at number nine, having stolen Cassie's photo of her grandchildren, and pretended as if he hadn't even seen her to begin with.Claire, who originally found fame on Brookside, left the programme so she could star as Miss Hannigan in the UK tour of classic musical Annie, and has now revealed that she was met with some eager soap fans at stage door, desperate to know what happened - but she admitted that she has no idea.‌Speaking on the Conversation Street podcast, she said: "I come out the stage door last night and there was some people who watch Corrie there. And they said, 'So what happens? What happens after that?'"And I said, 'I don't actually know...' So I don't know whether I live or die. The scene I've filmed, I don't die, but who knows? When I put the telly on a week or two later, I don't know. It's in the hands of the writers now."However, if the writers have chosen to keep Cassie alive, Claire, who has also appeared in musicals such as 9 to 5, Legally Blonde and Chicago over the years, admitted she would be more than happy to return - but still has another dream role to conquer.‌She said: "In musical theatre, [my other dream role] has always been Mrs. Johnstone in Blood Brothers. It's always been that. I've not done that one yet. I can't complain with Corrie. The stuff they gave me. It'd be lovely at some point to make a return."When Cassie's final scenes did air, fans reacted straight away on social media and were instantly worried that she had not made it out of Weatherfield alive.‌One fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Oh s*** is Cassie dead???" and another said: "Cassie getting in the car with Ross, they’re gonna leave us hanging for months over what he’s done to her, I bet!"A third wrote: "I well like Cassie I’ll be sad if she never comes back," and, on Reddit, another fan said: " Feel like he’s deffo killed her. But think they’ve done it this way so that they can bring her back again if they wanted to. "Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X. *Article continues belowFollow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
