Dr Thembisile Xulu, CEO of the South African AIDS Council (SANAC) Trust, is concerned about the rate of teenage pregnancy in South Africa.
The South African AIDS Council (SANAC) highlighted three key issues to help it fight HIV/AIDS when it briefed the National Council of Provinces on Wednesday.
The SANAC voiced its concerns on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) trends in the country, particularly amongst 13- 50-year-olds. It also highlighted that provinces like KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Free State and Eastern Cape contribute the highest number of people living with HIV in the country.
The SANAC also outlined key drivers of dual HIV and STI infection, including teenage pregnancy, and tactics to prevent such infections, such as addressing teenage pregnancy.
