Mastercard is working with Borderless.xyz to weave verified identity checks directly into stablecoin transfers, using Mastercard’s Crypto Credential framework as the underlying compliance layer. Instead of pasting a 42-character hex string and hoping for the best, users and businesses interact through verified aliases tied to real identities.
What Crypto Credential actually does
Mastercard first introduced the Crypto Credential framework in 2023, targeting one of crypto’s most persistent user experience problems: the very real risk of sending funds to the wrong address.
The framework replaces raw wallet addresses with validated usernames, while layering in compliance checks designed to satisfy global regulatory standards, including those set by the Financial Action Task Force.
The framework expanded in November 2025, adding support for self-custody wallets through partnerships with Polygon Labs and Mercuryo.
