Scientific excellence, innovation, perseverance, teamwork and meticulous planning helped engineers overcome extraordinary technical challenges to construct the Chenab Railway Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, one of the world’s most difficult terrains, said G. Madhavi Latha, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, on Wednesday (August 5, 2026).Presenting the 83rd Foundation Day Lecture at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Hyderabad, Ms. Madhavi Latha spoke on the construction of the world’s highest railway arch bridge and highlighted the dedication behind the landmark engineering feat. She worked as a geotechnical consultant for it.
