ADP reported Wednesday that private sector employers added 44,000 jobs in July, the weakest monthly total of the year and a sharp pullback from June's revised figure of 95,000. That figure missed the 75,000 target that Dow Jones-surveyed economists had projected, according to CNBC.
The services sector was the sole engine of growth, contributing 47,000 jobs, whereas goods-producing industries posted a net loss of 3,000. Within services, education and health services led with 36,000 new positions, followed by financial activities at 10,000 and professional and business services at 9,000. Leisure and hospitality fell by 11,000, and trade, transportation, and utilities lost 8,000.
