Historic bill on anti-terror bid submitted to parliament
A 12-article framework law tackling legal aspects of the government’s “terror-free Türkiye” project, whose main goal is the full disarmament and dissolution of the PKK terror group, is submitted to the parliament on Aug. 5 with plans to ratify it over the next weekend.
Titled the “Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration,” the framework bill has been submitted with the support of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) after months of parliamentary discussions and evaluations of the security and intelligence institutions.
The draft law is planned to be discussed at a relevant parliamentary commission on Aug. 7 before taking it to the General Assembly over the weekend and early next week. The law will take effect after it will be signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette.
The anti-terror campaign was first brought to the country’s agenda in late 2024 and followed with PKK’s declaration that it gives an end to its armed conflict against Türkiye in June 2025.
