Sterling Point is Prime Video's latest twisty teen drama, but what inspired the series?10:22, 05 Aug 2026Updated 10:39, 05 Aug 2026Fans of steamy teen dramas full of budding romances must watch Prime Video's Sterling Point.‌A new heartfelt, coming-of-age drama has just arrived on Prime Video, and fans of romance tales are urged to add it to their watch lists.‌Sterling Point is an eight-part series following 17-year-old Annie Jacobson (played by Ella Rubin), who was raised in New York City with her twin brother, Connor (Keen Ruffalo).‌Her life starts to unravel when she inherits her mysterious grandfather's island in Canada, and upon visiting, she discovers life-changing family secrets.Sterling Point joins a slate of YA-focused shows on Prime Video, including Off Campus, Every Year After and the acclaimed The Summer I Turned Pretty.Many of Prime Video's 'Young Adult' shows have been based on bestselling novels, but can the same be said for Sterling Point?‌Is Sterling Point based on a book?Megan Park, the creator of the series, also serves as a director, co-showrunner, and executive producer.Unlike many of Prime Video's titles in this genre, Sterling Point is not based on a book and is an original concept by Park.‌Park told Teen Vogue what she was looking for in a successful teen drama, explaining: “[When we were making Sterling Point] I wasn't necessarily thinking about, Oh, I love Dawson's Creek. How can we make this Dawson's Creek?“But we did talk about, in the writer's room, these characters that are so beloved, so real, nuanced, complicated, and likable; how do we draw on those elements and infuse them in a bigger way?"There's always going to be space and a desire for these coming-of-age shows, because there's always a new generation coming of age—and it's always fun to go back and escape to.‌"You turn on Netflix and it's, like, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl. They're all trending again.”Is Sterling Point a real place?Sterling Point in Canada is, unfortunately, not a real place.‌While some of the filming took place in Toronto, the majority happened in the Muskoka Lakes region.Park, who is Canadian herself, grew up spending summers in Muskoka, and she said she knew she wanted Sterling Point to be "a summer show set in Canada".Speaking to The Nightly, she added: "Cottage life in the summer is a really huge part of Canadian culture.Article continues below“We can really show Muskoka for what it really is, and talk about some of the things that are happening up there affecting the locals and the community.”Sterling Point is on Prime Video
