Firefighters reported improved conditions Wednesday on a major wildfire in western Attica that broke out in neighboring Viotia on July 31 before spreading into Attica, though crews remained on high alert for flare-ups.
The Fire Service said firefighters worked throughout the night to contain flare-ups and extinguish smoldering hotspots, the number of which has declined.
The main areas of concern remained between Psatha and Loumba, and around Agia Paraskevi and Agios Nektarios.
Four helicopters resumed water drops at first light to support firefighting efforts, while large ground crews continued operating across the fire zone to prevent renewed flare-ups.
Authorities said the response also includes support from the regional governments of Attica and Central Greece, the Forest Service, affected municipalities, armed forces disaster response units, police, ambulance services, heavy machinery and volunteer firefighters and civil protection teams.
