—The directive: A service-wide circular dated 7 November 2022 ordered all federal ministries, departments and agencies to appoint Data Protection Officers and forward their details to the regulator.
—The law: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Nigeria Data Protection Act into law on 12 June 2023, replacing the earlier 2019 regulation and creating the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
