The Afghan migrant accused of murdering British woman Elisabeth-Jane Ross allegedly used a burner phone to send messages to her family and friends claiming to be a jihadist who killed her because she is Christian, it emerged today.
Sharif Ahmadzai also allegedly texted his American wife from the unregistered number, peddling the same extremist narrative, according to Greek media reports.
Ahmadzai, who arrived in Greece by small boat in 2016 as an unaccompanied minor, is due to appear in court in Athens tomorrow.
After landing on Lesvos a decade ago, he converted to Christianity and married US citizen Alaina Hall, 28, in 2023. The pair met two years earlier while working at a refugee ministry in Athens and went on to marry despite opposition from her family. They later had a child together.
Ahmadzai is said to have denied killing Ms Ross during police interviews, claiming instead that he found her dead in the bathroom of an apartment.
