Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, is accused of killing 38-year-old British charity worker Elisabeth Jane Ross, from Edinburgh, after her body was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Greece20:37, 03 Aug 2026Updated 20:37, 03 Aug 2026A boxer accused of killing a British woman in Athens and stuffing her body in a suitcase has been pictured for the first time.Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, is at the centre of a police investigation after the remains of Elisabeth Jane Ross, 38, from Edinburgh, were discovered in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Greece's capital last week.Ahmadzai is accused of using Elisabeth's bank card to withdraw thousands of pounds from her account in the hours after the killing on July 16, and sending text messages from her phone in a bid to convince relatives she was alive.Ms Ross's body was found by a homeless man inside a suitcase in a derelict building on July 18.In one newly-released photograph, father-of-one Ahmadzai is seen brandishing a belt from the Professional Boxing Federation of Greece, having won a super lightweight boxing title in March.The Afghani national arrived in the Greek island of Lesvos in 2016, and married American Alaina Hall in 2023.The couple reportedly met Ms Ross, a Christian volunteer, through their charity Love Every Nation Athens, which they set up to help homeless people and refugees in the city.Ms Hall raised concerns to the police about his behaviour in the days following Elisabeth's death, according to the Daily Mail and the Times.She allegedly told detectives that he went missing on the evening of July 15, and that a location tracking app allegedly showed him at Elisabeth’s flat, which the couple had a key to access.Ahmadzai reportedly tried to give his wife €2,550 (£2,200) in cash along with a new Apple iPhone 17 Pro, but she later handed the items over to the police, suspecting they had been bought using her money.When officers raided his home on August 1, they discovered a black metal replica pistol and a black military-style knife, local media said.During questioning, Ahmadzai reportedly told detectives that Elisabeth was already dead when he found her, claiming he only put her in a suitcase so he could steal her money without drawing any suspicion.Ahmadzai has since been arrested and charged in connection with Ms Ross's death.
