A ball thrower with weak distance or a design that's hard to load can leave an energetic dog bored within minutes of starting a game of fetch. Manual launchers, toy-style blasters and automatic machines all approach the job differently, trading off distance, noise level and how much setup they require.
Consumer Reports evaluated ball throwers for dogs with the help of a real dog volunteer named Blake, testing distance, ease of use, noise and cleanup.
