Ukraine's Ministry of Health, together with the relevant parliamentary committee, has drafted legislation that would increase criminal liability for attacks on the health and lives of medical workers.

According to Ukrinform, Health Minister Viktor Liashko made the announcement during a television broadcast.

"We appeal to society and call for social responsibility: any attack on a person in a white coat must be condemned by society as a whole. There must be no acceptance and no justification that someone simply looked at someone the wrong way. This is fundamentally wrong and should never be tolerated. If today we bully doctors, tomorrow we will face problems with healthcare," Liashko said.

He added that the Ministry of Health and the parliamentary healthcare committee had prepared a draft law increasing criminal penalties for attacks against healthcare workers.
