If this scene alone was what we should be going off of, it could well confirm Joe did attack Billy.‌Despite him being released by police and protesting his innocence, he was acting very oddly. Of course he has the strongest motive for hurting or even killing Billy.‌Joe had been told by Caleb Miligan that Dawn Taylor, Joe's pregnant fiancée, kissed her ex Billy, while fans know Dawn rejected Billy's move. Now, a scene with Joe and Dawn has teased Joe is guilty, after his reaction to an update about Billy from the hospital.Dawn had just advised Joe that the doctors were planning on waking Billy up from his coma. She watched his reaction as she said this and the fact that it would be the next day.‌Joe repeated what she said and seemed stunned, and maybe worried. He stared at her with what looked like a panicked expression, something she noticed.She told him: "So hopefully he wakes up and tells us exactly what happened." She seemed to suspect him as she said this, while Joe said nothing and just nodded.So does this not only prove that Dawn thinks Joe is Billy's attacker, but that he is in fact to blame? Is Joe worried about Billy waking up because Billy might know he was to blame?‌Or are Emmerdale tricking us here and Joe is innocent? Ned Porteous who plays Joe exclusively told the Mirror whether Joe could be guilty.Ned said: "I think Joe has it in him to do a whole bunch of things. Yeah. I think the beauty of this character, and the fun I've been having with the character, is the duality between his capabilities for great good and great evil.‌"I think as a thematic tool, Joe, and characters like Joe, are extremely useful for the screenwriters, because we can see that he is a good dude, but he has no practice at it. He's volatile, he has a complete lack of control of his emotions."So, if you were to get to him, he'll get you back sevenfold." We then questioned whether if Joe was innocent, will he struggle to prove that innocence given Joe's dark ways in the past.He told us: "Absolutely. I think everything that Joe does in this village is guilty until proven innocent, because why on earth wouldn't it be?
