Nickolay Mladenov, the Peace Council's envoy for Gaza, held what the organization described as "constructive and detailed" talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his team on Monday as efforts continue to implement a proposed agreement aimed at disarming Hamas.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the Peace Council reiterated that the objective of the initiative remains unchanged. “The goal is clear and non-negotiable: complete disarmament in the Strip and a transition from power by force to civilian rule,” the statement said.
According to two sources familiar with the discussions, Mladenov urged Netanyahu to halt Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip as part of the process of implementing the disarmament agreement announced by U.S. President Donald Trump last Thursday.
Despite the announcement of the proposed deal, Israel subsequently said it had "serious security concerns" and intensified its military operations in Gaza. Local health authorities reported that 17 people were killed during strikes carried out overnight between Saturday and Sunday. No Israeli strikes were reported in the territory on Monday.
The Peace Council later clarified that it expects Israel to complete its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip only after Hamas has fully disarmed, emphasizing that the sequence of implementation remains a key part of the agreement.
