President Iliana Yotova said Bulgaria remains one of the safest destinations for tourists despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East and Iran’s warnings related to the country’s cooperation with the United States.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the Perperikon archaeological complex, Yotova stressed that there are currently no security threats affecting visitors to Bulgaria. “Bulgaria is definitely one of the safest destinations in many respects. There are no threats from conflicts, both in Europe and in the Middle East,” she said, adding that everyone visiting the country can expect peaceful conditions for recreation and tourism. “Everyone is welcome here and will find the peace that is necessary for recreation and good conditions.”
The president acknowledged that the tourism sector has been affected by the conflict in the Middle East, but argued that the decline in visitor numbers is largely the result of canceled flights rather than concerns over safety. According to her, disruptions have been linked primarily to higher fuel prices and supply issues caused by the regional crisis. “It is about problems with prices and supplies,” she said, noting that airlines make decisions based on their own economic considerations.
