The National Basketball Players Association has a new player-owned practice facility dubbed "PLYRS UNTD."
PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – Before he sat down in a refurbished conference room, New Orleans Pelicans guard Trey Murphy looked through the office window.
Below him, Murphy could see a handful of NBA players either scrimmaging or completing individual workouts at the National Basketball Players Association’s new player-owned training facility. Nearly two year after the LA Clippers vacated their practice facility here and moved to Intuit Dome in nearby Inglewood, the NBPA made what it called a “sizable investment” in renovating the facility through its licensing revenue with expanded signage, amenities and space.
“I’m grateful to have something like this,” said Murphy, who is also the NBPA’s Vice President. “You walk in the gym and your mind starts to race. I see a lot of NBA players. I’m going to have to lock in and make sure that I’m been working, too. So it’s a little bit of healthy competition.”
That healthy competition will resume throughout the NBA’s offseason.
