Interim chairperson of the Lansdowne Tennis Club, Liuschen Ackerman.
The City of Cape Town is not proceeding with the proposed disposal of the Lansdowne tennis courts while it assesses an application from the revived Lansdowne Tennis Club to lease the facility.
City of Cape Town spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo said the City's Property Transactions and Recreation and Parks departments are working together to assess the lease application in line with municipal policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
He said where there is a viable opportunity for the facility to continue serving its intended purpose as a public sporting amenity, that option should be fully assessed before any decision is made on the property's future.
Revived in February 2025 under new leadership, the club has quickly become a vibrant gathering place for the community.
