President Vladimir Putin has signed laws expanding state oversight of food prices and establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrency trading.

The measures will give government agencies access to confidential financial data across the food supply chain while requiring cryptocurrency transactions to take place through institutions supervised by Russia’s Central Bank.

The food price law, which takes effect on Jan. 1, 2027, will allow designated federal agencies to obtain information from the Federal Tax Service about food producers and retailers, including their transactions, prices, sales volumes, revenue, expenses and profits.

The information will be drawn from tax returns, accounting records and financial statements. The government will determine which agencies receive the data and which products are covered by the monitoring system.

The list is expected to include staple foods such as meat, vegetables, milk and grains, the government newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta previously reported. The products are among those tracked by the state statistics agency Rosstat when calculating inflation.
