Private sector health insurer Aditya Birla Health Insurance on Tuesday said it is hopeful of increasing market shares in both retail and group segments this fiscal.The insurance company, which has the largest market share in the group segment in the standalone health insurance space, currently garners around 16 per cent market share in the overall SAHI space.The company is planning to have tie-ups with more digital platforms to reach out to more young customers, Aditya Birla Health Insurance CEO Mayank Bathwal said.“We are trying to work with platforms, where Yuvas (young people) are already there, because there are a lot of digital platforms where they are present. The young segment is very digital savvy. So, we are going to work through many of these platforms to reach out to this segment. Corporates also have a large young segment. We are very large in group business,” Bathwal said.The health insurer, a collaboration between Aditya Birla Capital and Momentum Group of South Africa, is the largest in the group business in the SAHI space at present. “We are hopeful of increasing market shares in both retail and group segments this fiscal. Our aim is to grow faster than the industry,” the CEO said.In the last financial year, Aditya Birla Health Insurance posted a 29.38 per cent year-on-year growth in gross direct premium underwritten. In the non-life insurance space, it garnered a market share of 1.86 per cent in FY26 against 1.57 per cent in FY25, according to data provided by the General Insurance Council.In order to attract young people, the company has launched “Activ Yuva”, a health-focused insurance plan designed for the evolving lifestyle and wellness needs of young Indians. As part of the offering, a comprehensive wellness programme has been introduced, rewarding individuals for everyday healthy behaviours across nutrition, fitness, and recovery.According to Bathwal, less than 15 per cent of the business in terms of number of policies is currently coming from below the age of 35 for the industry. For the company, the average age of customers is around 33-34 years.Published on August 4, 2026
