An iconic Belgian detective will return to TV screens in a new BBC adaptation next year16:09, 04 Aug 2026The BBC has shared an exciting update on an upcoming detective series.‌Last month, the broadcaster announced that Sex Education's Edward Bluemel will star as Agatha Christie's iconic Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in a new drama series titled Hercule.‌The six-part series is written by Code of Silence's Benji Walters, while Jonny Campbell, Chanya Button and Alrick Riley are on board to direct two episodes each. A Woman of Substance's Charlie Palmer serves as series producer. Now, the BBC has announced the rest of the casting for the anticipated drama.‌Edward Bluemel will be joined by Henry Ashton, James D'Arcy, Calvin Demba, Phil Dunning, Jack Gleeson, Tamsin Greig, James Nesbitt, Guy Remmers, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Mawaan Rizwan.The drama, which will chronicle the story of "the world's greatest detective" and how he became it, is set to begin filming in Liverpool soon.‌"The series is an intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars," reads the official synopsis for the drama."The series takes a magnifying glass to three of Christie's most celebrated stories, while also charting Hercule's burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard's James Japp, and introducing him to one particular nemesis..."‌Jon Farrar, BBC Studios' Chief Content Officer, Direct to Consumer, previously said in a statement: "Few characters in fiction are as iconic as Hercule Poirot.
