Any keen observer of the conversation around Artificial Intelligence (AI) would have observed that the conversation on the modern-day disruption has moved very fast. Barely two years ago, many business leaders on the continent were content to just ask whether AI would become relevant to their organisations. Today, the question has changed. The new challenge is now whether business leaders understand it well enough to use it as a competitive advantage.
From where I stand, AI is the next platform upon which businesses, industries and economies will compete. Just as the internet disrupted commerce and mobile technology changed customer engagement, Artificial Intelligence is redefining how organisations make decisions, solve problems and ultimately create value.
For African businesses, this is an opportunity that we cannot afford to misunderstand. One of the biggest misconceptions I encounter is that AI is primarily about using tools like ChatGPT or automating repetitive tasks. Those applications are important, but they are only a small part of a much bigger story. Artificial Intelligence is fundamentally about building systems that can improve productivity, enhance decision-making and unlock new opportunities across every sector of the economy.
