Brown / AFP via Getty ImagesAug. 4, 2026 5:50 am EDT Updated Strasbourg have completed the signing of U.S. men’s national team midfielder Gio Reyna from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee of up to €4million ($4.6m).The Athletic reported on Thursday that Reyna, 23, was in talks about a potential move to Strasbourg, and the French club confirmed his arrival on Tuesday on a five-year deal that runs through to 2031.The move means Reyna will represent a fourth different club in as many seasons, departing Gladbach after just one year in Germany.Strasbourg finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season. The team is owned by BlueCo, the consortium led by U.S. businessman Todd Boehly — who owns minority stakes in the L.A. Dodgers, L.A. Lakers and L.A. Sparks — and Clearlake Capital, which bought Chelsea in 2022 and made Strasbourg part of its multi-club model a year later.Reyna has struggled for regular minutes in recent seasons following a series of injuries. He was limited to 19 appearances for Gladbach last season, and he has not played more than 625 minutes in the league since 2020-21, when he was still a teenager breaking through at Borussia Dortmund.He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Nottingham Forest, before a permanent move to Gladbach from Dortmund in the summer of 2025 in an attempt to secure regular minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup.Reyna was named in the USMNT’s World Cup squad despite his lack of playing time, scoring once — a trivela goal in a 4-1 win over Paraguay — in five appearances at the tournament before his side exited at the last-16 stage.At the World Cup in Qatar four years earlier, the former New York City FC academy prospect was nearly sent home for disciplinary issues after learning he would not start the World Cup opener against Wales.He has been capped 43 times at international level, scoring 10 goals.
