U.S. men’s national team midfielder Gio Reyna is in talks about a potential move to Strasbourg from Borussia Monchengladbach, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.The 23-year-old has been with Gladbach for just one season, making 19 Bundesliga appearances and scoring one goal. Reyna, the son of U.S. men’s national team legend Claudio Reyna, may be joining his fourth club in as many seasons should the proposed move to France advance.Strasbourg finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season. The team is owned by BlueCo, the consortium led by U.S. businessman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, which bought Chelsea in 2022 and made Strasbourg part of its multi-club model a year later.
Reyna has struggled to get on the field consistently in recent seasons due to injuries that have plagued his career. He played just over 500 Bundesliga minutes in 2025-26, continuing a trend in which the attacking midfielder has failed to log more than 625 minutes in league play since 2020-21, when he was still a teenager breaking out for Borussia Dortmund.

Muscle injuries, though, halted that progress. The former New York City FC academy prospect produced for the national team when he was healthy, however. Reyna scored in a 3-2 Concacaf Nations League final win over Mexico and was named to the 2022 World Cup team. He became embroiled in controversy there when he was nearly sent home for disciplinary issues after learning he would not start the World Cup opener against Wales. Reyna eventually played 52 minutes in four games at the tournament. A controversy between his parents and former U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter erupted after the tournament, but Reyna remained involved in the national team picture. He had two assists in the 2023 Concacaf Nations League final and a further two in the 2024 Nations League semifinal and a goal in the final, earning best player of the tournament honors.
