NewsUK NewsIndigoIndiGo has announced it will stop flights between London Heathrow and Delhi and Mumbai in India from August 31 until it takes delivery of new Airbus A350-900 planes08:24, 04 Aug 2026An airline has announced it is dropping two major routes from London Heathrow this autumn despite launching them less than a year ago.‌Flights between London Heathrow and India are being axed, budget airline IndiGo has said - with the service due to come to an end when it returns borrowed planes on October 25.‌The budget carrier blamed “challenging operating environment triggered by the ongoing geopolitical tensions” as well as rising fuel costs and restrictions to airspace for dropping the routes.‌The airline has said it will hand back aircraft it had leased from Norse Atlantic Airways in October when the flights come to an end.IndiGo had flown direct to Delhi and Mumbai from London Heathrow but these two destinations will no longer be served, the airline said.IndiGo, India’s biggest airline, said it will “work closely with affected customers to offer suitable alternatives” and help with refunds or other travel arrangements.‌The company has said it is waiting to take delivery of new Airbus A350-900 aircraft before restarting operations between India and Heathrow.The airline has previously said it plans to stop other routes from Manchester Airport, with those cuts set to come into effect later this month.The two cancelled routes to Mumbai and Delhi only started in July 2025 - and they are due to stop operating for now on August 31.‌The budget carrier offers cheap travel between the UK and India, with a one-way flight between Manchester and Mumbai from as little as £290.Several other airlines will continue to offer flights between UK airports and the two Indian cities.IndiGo’s new boss, former Irish pilot and airline veteran Willie Walsh, took over as heard of the airline yesterday following a scheduling crisis in 2025.Article continues belowLast December, the airline faced mass flight cancellations after it was unprepared for new government rules coming into force on pilot rosters.
