A Russian aerial bomb strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy killed three civilians early Tuesday, including two young girls, as Moscow continues to target Ukrainian cities with devastating guided bombs. The targets included private homes and infrastructure facilities,” Hryhorov said. The victims included an elderly woman and two girls, aged 5 and 10, whose bodies were pulled from the rubble of a destroyed private house. Four more people sought medical treatment after the attack. Hryhorov said four of the bombs struck civilian infrastructure, while two others were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses before reaching the city.
The latest attack came just two days after Russian forces dropped six guided bombs on Sumy, damaging non-residential buildings and vehicles. No casualties were reported in that strike. Russia has repeatedly targeted Sumy, a city located near the Russian border, with aerial bombs in recent weeks. On July 31, Russian forces struck industrial facilities in the city’s Zarichnyi district with four bombs. A July 28 attack hit residential areas of Sumy, injuring six people, including three children. Russian aircraft have increasingly relied on guided aerial bombs to attack Ukrainian cities near the border, including Kharkiv. Ukrainian officials have described the weapon as one of Russia’s most destructive tools due to its ability to strike from a distance while causing widespread damage.
