The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has declared that the long-running Monday sit-at-home in the South-East is effectively over, citing heavy vehicular traffic in Onitsha as evidence of improving security and the return of commercial activities.
Soludo made the declaration on Monday while speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, where he also announced plans for closer economic cooperation between Anambra and Delta states.
"To have traffic at Onitsha on a Monday, the Monday sit-at-home is over," Soludo said after arriving about 15 minutes late to the summit, attributing the delay to congestion on roads leading into the commercial city.
The governor used the incident to argue that economic activities were returning to normal after years of disruption caused by the Monday sit-at-home, which has crippled businesses, transportation and public life across parts of the South-East.
