Although the screening was not officially cancelled, many audience members reportedly chose to leave before the film ended because of the lingering odour. The person responsible has not been identified. Reports suggested that the smell may have been caused by a stink bomb set off as a prank, or by a filmgoer who was unable to reach the bathroom in time.Several viewers criticised the unidentified culprit on social media.“There’s no respect anymore, but I don’t think anyone is so rotten as to evacuate an entire auditorium”, one person reportedly said.“To ruin a whole cinema like that, only God knows what that person ate”, another wrote.Others jokingly described the anonymous offender as the film’s real “villain”.The film itself, however, appears to have received a far warmer response. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, which stars Tom Holland, was rated “Certified Fresh” by 90 per cent of critics and received a 98 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.Film critic Johnny Oleksinski compared the movie’s tone with the Tobey Maguire-led “Spider-Man” films of the 2000s, which he described as the gold standard not only for Spider-Man movies but also for Marvel films.
