Shares of movie theater company AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC) are trading higher Monday after a record-setting box office weekend.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" posted the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend ever, a milestone expected to benefit Sony Group Corp.
(NYSE:SONY), which owns the franchise’s film rights.
The movie grossed $360 million domestically over the weekend, to break the previous $357 million record held by another Marvel Cinematic Universe hit, "Avengers: Endgame," which was distributed by The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS).
Sony splits the big-screen ownership of Spider-Man with Disney thanks to a strategic gamble it made in 1998.
