Bulgaria’s 52nd National Assembly adopted 28 laws and 89 decisions during its first parliamentary session, according to a report prepared by the Directorate of Legislative Activity and Parliamentary Control and the legislature’s press office.
The session covered the period from April 30 to July 31, 2026, during which lawmakers held 39 plenary sittings. Parliament received 163 bills, 114 of them submitted by members of parliament. Deputies also introduced 137 draft decisions, along with two draft addresses and declarations.
Among the most significant pieces of legislation adopted were the 2026 state budget, the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund and the State Social Security budget.
Parliament also approved the law aimed at combating corruption among people holding public office, as well as amendments to the Electoral Code, the Judiciary Act, the Criminal Procedure Code, the State Debt Act and the Competition Protection Act.
During its first session, the National Assembly elected a government headed by Prime Minister Rumen Radev. Lawmakers also selected the heads of the State Intelligence Agency and the State Security Agency, as well as a deputy governor of the National Health Insurance Fund.
