The Shargh newspaper reported on Monday, August 3, citing Iraqi politician Muyassar Al-Shammari, that Baghdad has initiated diplomatic efforts aimed at “mediating between the Islamic Republic and the United States,” “aligning the perspectives of both sides,” and “containing regional tensions.”

According to Shargh, Al-Shammari stated that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi is leading these diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading further across the region.

The Iraqi politician also claimed that the prime minister’s recent visit to Tehran, which took place shortly after his trip to Washington, involved conveying “important messages” from the US administration. Al-Shammari noted that during his meetings in Tehran, Al-Zaidi attempted to encourage the Islamic Republic to demonstrate greater flexibility on certain points of contention, thereby paving the way for the resumption of talks and the achievement of mutual understanding.
