ITV is set to air a legal series that is based on a hugely popular book by John Grisham17:51, 03 Aug 2026ITV is set to air a new legal thriller and fans of The Split will be hooked.‌Titled The Rainmaker, the series is based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham and follows a young law school graduate who finds himself facing off against lawyers with much more experience after he unearths a mystery.‌The show, starring Sex and The City's John Slattery and Milo Callaghan from Rivals, will be available on the channel from September and could fill the gap for fans missing Nicola Walker's legal drama.‌The Split - which followed the lives of the Defoe family, who all worked in divorce law for the family firm - was a huge hit with viewers but wrapped in 2024.A synopsis for The Rainmaker said: "Rudy Baylor, who is fresh out of law school, goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend, Sarah.‌"Rudy, along with his boss, Bruiser, and her dishevelled paralegal, Deck, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son."Milo plays Rudy in the thriller, while John stars as Leo F Drummond, a managing partner at the prestigious Tinley Britt law firm. Madison Iseman plays Sarah Plankmore, who is a first year associate at Tinley Britt and who is dating Rudy.PJ Byrne, who previously appeared in the film The Wolf of Wall Street, plays Deck Shifflet, a former insurance agent and paralegal. Lana Parilla is also among the line-up, playing Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone, a senior partner at a personal injury firm.‌The cast of the 10-episode drama also includes Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs and Robyn Cara, who stars as Rudy's troubled neighbour.The Rainmaker was written by author Grisham in 1995 and it became a massive success with readers, with copies flying off the shelves and making it one of the fastest selling novels ever at the time.Article continues belowIt was soon snapped up by Hollywood, where it became a hit movie starring Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight and Mickey Rourke.Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider and Virginia Madsen were also among those who starred in the film, which was released in 1997.The Rainmaker is scheduled to air weekly on ITV1, starting with a double bill at 9pm on September 4. The full season, consisting of 10 episodes, will be available to stream on ITVX immediately from this date.
