Hashdex plans to close and liquidate its Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (DEFI) following a review of its product lineup, according to a Monday press release. The fund is scheduled to stop trading on Aug. 17.
The fund is a US-listed exchange-traded fund providing spot Bitcoin exposure through a regulated investment vehicle managed by Hashdex. It began as the Hashdex Bitcoin Futures ETF in 2022 before transitioning to a spot Bitcoin strategy in March 2024. As of July, DEFI managed approximately $14.7 million in assets.
After trading ends, the fund will liquidate its remaining Bitcoin holdings and distribute cash to shareholders who will retain their positions through the final trading day. The liquidation payment is expected around Aug. 28 and will reflect the fund’s net asset value after expenses and market movements.
