Moscow, Aug 3 (EFE).- Former Russian presidential hopeful Boris Nadezhdin, an outspoken critic of the war in Ukraine, posted a video from Paris on Monday in which he said that he will «take stock of the situation and figure out how to go on living» after being declared an extremist in Russia.
«The good news is I’m alive and free. But sadly, not yet in Russia,” Nadezhdin said in a video recorded in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, adding that he would provide updates.
The politician, active since the 1990s, suspended his election campaign for the September legislative elections after being convicted in mid-July for extremism, which disqualifies him as an independent candidate.
As with other liberal candidates, the reason for the disqualification was an image of the late opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, which appeared in a link posted on his social media.
Nadezhdin, 63, pleaded not guilty, arguing, among other things, that once dead, the authorities should have removed Navalny from the list of extremists and terrorists.
