South African leading regional and domestic airline Airlink has announced that it will launch a new service between Gauteng and Harare, in Zimbabwe, in November. It will be operated from the privately-owned Lanseria International Airport, located north-west of Johannesburg and south-west of Pretoria, with a frequency of three times a week, starting on November 15.
“Johannesburg-Harare is one of the busiest routes in Southern Africa and saw demand averaging around 60 000 seats a month in 2025,” highlighted Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht. “A significant percentage of this market comprises people within Lanseria’s catchment area and Airlink is able to better serve these customers by augmenting our existing services (which operate out of OR Tambo) with the Lanseria flights.”
This new route will be Airlink’s first scheduled service from Lanseria and it will be operated using Embraer E190 jet airliners. The service will also be the first scheduled connection between Lanseria and Harare operated by any airline. Airlink highlights that Lanseria is a modern and world-class facility.
Airlink’s E190s can carry 98 passengers, divided into six in business class and 92 in economy class. Passengers in both classes have a choice between window or aisle seats, as Airlink does not have any middle seats on any of its aircraft.
