Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Monday said inquiries were under way into allegations of corrupt practices during the erstwhile DMK regime in his department. Mr. Ramesh told reporters that inquiries were on to ascertain how the properties of temples were “usurped” and misused at several places. Inquiries were also on to identify those involved in such wrong doings, the Minister said and added that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government was committed to eliminating corruption in the department. Committees would soon be formed to protect the properties of each temple and probe the irregularities, he said. To a question whether a White Paper would be released on allegations of corruption in the department during the DMK regime, the Minister said the matter was under discussion.
