Regional authorities said in an update on Monday afternoon that 15 people remained in hospital and 19 had been discharged.‌The privately operated bus was transporting tourists to the Marmore Falls, an ancient Roman waterfall near Terni, Italian newspaper La Nazione reports.Proietti described the crash as a "catastrophic" mass-casualty incident, saying the regional emergency protocol was activated immediately after the first emergency call. Francesco Persiani, the mayor of Massa, expressed his condolences, writing on Facebook: "In the very serious road accident that occurred along the Terni–Rieti highway, two of our fellow citizens, Paolo Cosci and Graziella Baldini, also lost their lives.
