Various district-level competitions under the banner ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Vikasita Bharat’ (Drug-free youth for a developed India) were held at Sri Ramakrishna College here on Monday.The event was organized jointly by My Bharat Dakshina Kannada, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Mangalore University, and the Youth Red Cross.Inaugurating the event, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun urged young people to realise the value of life and serve as role models in society by pledging “No to drugs, yes to life”. He later administered the ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ pledge to the students. Bunts Yane Nadavara Mathru Sangha general secretary M. Karunakar Shetty presided over the programme.More than 300 students from various colleges across Dakshina Kannada district participated in eight categories: group singing, group dance, reel making, pantomime, poetry recitation, elocution, slogan writing, and painting.Prizes were distributed to the winners of competitions at the closing ceremony. Winners of the first prize in each event will represent Dakshina Kannada at the Karnataka state-level competition.My Bharat deputy director K.T.
