JPMorgan Chase unveiled its American Dream Initiative on March 31, channeling three-quarters of a trillion dollars into housing and community development by 2035. That figure represents a boost of more than $200 billion from the bank’s previous commitments, making it one of the largest single-institution capital deployment pledges in US history.

What the money actually funds

The initiative, which CEO Jamie Dimon is personally spearheading, targets six areas: small business growth, housing accessibility and affordability, financial well-being, career development, healthcare, and support for local institutions.

On the small business side, the bank is earmarking $80 billion in lending over the next decade. The goal is to expand its small business client base from 7 million to 10 million owners. To pull it off, JPMorgan plans to coach 115,000 small business owners and hire 1,000 additional small-business bankers.

The ADI will scale programs already running in high-demand markets including Alabama, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
