A 29-year-old educator from Michael Zulu Primary School was shot dead while walking to school with a group of learners on Monday morning,

A 29-year-old educator from Michael Zulu Primary School in Tsakane was shot dead while walking to school alongside a group of learners on Monday morning, with Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile expressing shock and sadness over the killing.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education, the educator was attacked at about 7 am at the corner of Dunge and Masinga streets, less than a kilometre from the school.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened an investigation.

Maile extended his condolences to the educator’s family, colleagues, learners and the entire Michael Zulu Primary School community, describing the killing as a devastating loss.
