A woman was hospitalised after allegedly consuming pesticide in Gadevaripalli village under the Karampudi police station limits in Palnadu district on Saturday (August 1, 2026). The incident came to light on Monday (August 3) after a purported video of the woman and her husband, alleging harassment by Karampudi Sub-Inspector in connection with a financial dispute, surfaced on social media.The woman, Challa Lakshmi wife of Challa Ayyappa, alleged in the video that the police officer harassed the couple, assaulted them, and threatened to implicate them in a false ganja case. The family has sought a detailed inquiry and justice from the government.Responding to the allegations, Karampudi Sub-Inspector M. Vasu denied all claims. He said Ayyappa, who was engaged in the chilli trade, had procured produce from farmers but allegedly failed to repay around ₹1.5 crore to nearly 60 farmers after claiming business losses. Based on complaints, a case was registered and investigation launched.The officer stated that the couple had visited the police station on August 1 to discuss the complaints. After returning home, Lakshmi allegedly consumed pesticide in the presence of farmers and others. The officer denied claims that the couple had been harassed or threatened with a false case.Senior police personnel launched an inquiry into the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
