Lithuania is making progress toward normalising relations with China, Parliament Speaker Juozas Olekas said after meeting with Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
Olekas said Lithuania’s goal is to maintain relations with Beijing at the same level as other European Union member states.
“This objective is included in the government’s program, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to achieve results,” Olekas said, according to a statement from the parliament, Seimas.
Budrys said Lithuania’s position on China has remained unchanged, emphasising the need for a unified European approach to Beijing as part of the EU’s common foreign and security policy.
The foreign minister said differing policies among EU member states toward bilateral relations with China create opportunities for Beijing to influence individual countries and weaken the bloc’s role as a global actor.
